GIRLIE UPDATE > MOVIE ALERT: How To Train Your Dragon 3-D
Aaron took me on a date tonight -- we had dinner at Bellacino's and went to see HTTYD in 3-D. Even though it was an animated film, I loved it! The animation, 3-d effects and storyline was awesome and touching. I want to see it again...

PUNTA CANA: Day 1
Friday, March 26th 8 a.m.
We are off to the Dominican Republic!
Aaron and I had a nice direct flight only we didn't sit together. That only meant I was leaning on the man next to me instead of my hubby.
We arrived in Punta Cana and right away I felt like I was going home to Hawai'i. The sun, the warmth, the dark skinned people. Even the airport had a touch of the tropics. Since our vacation was a package deal, a porter met us at baggage claim and brought us to a shuttle bus. It drove us for 20 minutes to the coast and our resort, the Natura Park Beach & Eco Resort.
We checked our room then made a beeline to the beach. PERFECT!
We could have stayed there until the sun went down -- the sun felt good on our skin and the breeze off of the ocean cooled us up - but we had to meet our tour representative for our departure info.
We are off to the Dominican Republic!

We stopped at Bar Merenguito for a drink before the dinner buffet at Restaurant La Cana opened.
Oh a fruity drink, at last!
It's been awhile since we've gone to a buffet so needless to say we stuffed our faces. I was disappointed that it didn't include local dishes. I was looking forward to eating plantains and juicy meats. But we ate to our hearts content which meant falling asleep in the room after dinner!
We actually woke up at midnight, revived from our flight. We decided to walk around and check out the resort only nothing was open and everyone seem to be in their rooms sleeping. We did find Restaurant Media Luna open for hamburgers and fries. We hung out with the flamingos.
Then we ended our first day watching The Time Traveler's Wife on my laptop. We look forward to fun in the sun tomorrow!

Saturday, March 27th
I woke up later than we planned but we managed to get ready for a breakfast buffet at the Restaurant La Cana.
Guess where we headed next?

There were a lot of aquatic sports happening all along the beach

We made a happy discovery that we didn't have to go back to the main buffet restaurant for lunch. The Restaurant La Perla offered some kind of Paella dish which was very delicious! After several hours sleeping in the sun, Aaron felt it was time to go (due to redness and a burning sensation).
We stopped at the Bar Remojon for a cerveza! It had a cool breeze running through the bar so we hung out for awhile and read our books.
We headed back to our room for a nice shower and a short nap...

Once again we hung out at Bar Merenguito for drinks before having dinner at the Restaurant La Cana. We decided that to get the best food from the many selections, we needed to go to the made-to-order stations. The food was fresher and cooked to our liking.
We hung out in the room and watched Pineapple Express until the Michael Jackson Tribute event started. The Bar Cohoba was packed so we ended up going back to Bar Merenguito for more drinks. Like one drink each. The novelty of the show wore off after two dances so we headed back to the room.
And fell asleep...

Sunday, March 28th
Another day, another buffet breakfast. So there are residents of the resort that was quite amusing. Aaron and I named them "Keala and Ikaika". You guessed it, one duck was white and was quacking away at everyone who passed it by. It's partner was mixed colored and kept busy eating and grazing. They were usually at our building entrance but we would see them here and there. They made me happy!
During our last day we stuck in the shade then the direct sun. Aaron is pretty red and I'm feeling some tingling on my forearms. We had a buffet lunch at Restaurant La Perla. We had nachos and chili fries.
OK, this is what happens when you fall asleep and the sun moves across the sky. We moved our chairs every 30-minutes and followed the tree shadow across the beach

Later we headed to Bar Remojon for evening drinks. We got caught playing Spanish BINGO and lucky Aaron, he won the second round and a bottle of rum. Great souvenir!
After a refreshing shower we headed for our usual drink at Bar Merenguito. Aaron had a Cuba Libre or rum and coke.
Then we went for an early snack at the dinner buffet in Restaurant La Cana since our dinner reservations at Restaurant Media Luna steakhouse was at 8:45 p.m. Lucky day for Aaron again -- it was Mexican food night!
I finally remembered to take a bread roll so I could feed our feathered friends. "Keala" was brave enough to come up to me to be hand fed. It snipped at my legs!
We dressed up and had a late dinner -- I had lamb and Aaron had fajitas with the flamingos. We ended our night packing and getting a good night's rest. Our shuttle to the airport picks us up early.

Amazingly I woke up in time to checkout of our room and head to the breakfast buffet before our shuttle came at 8 a.m.
Someone doesn't want to go home...
Getting our tickets and baggage sent away was easy. Customs was just as easy. We had quite a bit of time to hang out at the airport so we ate, got us food to eat on the plane and watched a movie on my laptop.
The airport reminded me of home with the thatched roofs and open areas. Home meaning Hawai'i. But holey cow, look at that ceiling fan! That must be 20-foot long blades!
Goodbye Punta Cana and the Dominican Republican! We leave you and your blue skies and warm breeze!

GIRLIE UPDATE > MOVIE ALERT: Bounty Hunter
I had a nice evening with my peeps -- San, Laura and Kristen -- enjoying a movie and dinner. Rachel and Monica had to cancel for last-minute things that came up.
I waited a day but I finally got to see Mr. Butler's latest movie The Bounty Hunter. I had a talk with myself that everything was going to be OK when I see G and Ms. Aniston canoodling on screen... they are just acting after all! I was spared just a kiss at the end, wooh! It wasn't the sexiest character G has played but he was his fun, friendly ol' self. Loved him in the bed and breakfast outfit!

We ended up going to Aladdin's Eatery instead of the other two restaurants I recommended. Love the no-line wait! Thank you Laura for offering to drive everyone back to Oberlin! You saved me a trip!

Surgery day
I was successful the second time around -- the doctor didn't cancel my endoscopy this time. I didn't have to wake up extra early like the last time but I was starving, having no food and drink from the night before to the late afternoon.
It was the first time I was carted away in a bed and to an operating room. It was cold and the nurse had frozen fingers. "Take 4 deep breaths" he said. But I was out by two! I love twilight anesthesia! I woke up before I knew it and getting ready to go home in an hour. The prep took longer than the procedure. Cookie took me to a nice lunch before I went home to sleep the day away.
Good news! I don't have ulcers or reflux, thank God. But I do have to continue with an acid reducer for the time being. Even if I haven't had heartburn for over a month. I better start eating healthier! Soon!

We're going to Punta Cana, baby!
After a week of looking for vacation specials on those rare days both Aaron and I are off from work, we finally settled on a trip to the Dominican Republic. It will be an all-inclusive vacation on a Caribbean resort for 4 days! I am looking forward to getting some sun, feel sand between my toes and maybe downing some fruity drinks!

The Burger Engine and the Sly Fox
Doing our taxes took a bit of energy out of us today. Instead of doing the much-needed food shopping, we opted to hang out with friends instead.
Mike and Tina joined us for dinner and drinks. We tried the Buckeye Beer Engine in Lakewood for the first time and enjoyed the beer selection and food. I had the special -- a corned beef and sauerkraut sandwich with a hamburger in the middle! It came with fries and a fried pickle! Yummy and so not good for me! Aaron had the southwestern sandwich. We continued our night at the Sly Fox in North Olmsted. A pretty nice dive bar with a retro band that sang all kinds of music -- from Lady Gaga to the Gap Band! Aaron's convinced the lead female singer was lip-syncing! Aaron and Mike sang and rapped the night away. Fun times all around!

I'm bummed I didn't get to go out with Jen Starkey and little Fiona for lunch today. They are just not ready to get out of the house yet.
But I did meet Jen Vido at Crocker Park later and saw Remember Me. We also got to see the trailer for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. After we stopped at the Seventy Six West Wine Bar for drinks and a light dinner. I did a bit of shopping too. A nice girl's evening out!

Kick that butt in Bootcamp!
I took a long dinner break tonight so I could take Rachel to bootcamp aerobics. It wasn't "stations" night and at least it wasn't "varsity football tryouts" night either! It was more step and core. All those squats and lunges made my butt and thighs burn. The free weights (2 #s) made my triceps like jello -- hey, don't knock it until you try it! And the two nights of crunches made my abs feel tight. No, not flat, but solid! Feel-good-pain, baby! I hope I'm over the pain by Thursday or else I'm gonna suffer!

Tudors and Gym night II
Sam and I are keeping to a schedule and watched Tudors on Sunday and went to the gym today during my dinner breaks. I haven't scared Sam yet with all my bootcamp exercises so let's see how long we keep at it! If we do we're going to be hot enough to wear cute dresses and sleeveless tops in the spring! But I think we need another Tudors night during the week... we are not watching the series fast enough to finish all 3 seasons by April 11th, season 4's premiere night! I'm just glad I have a friend to hang out with!

Beachwood shopping
Enjoyed a girl's day with Rachel. We quenched our craving for Japanese food at Daishin Japanese Restaurant in North Olmsted. I had the "Hawaiian" -- California rolls topped with sashimi -- with an order for teriyaki chicken. Ono! Then we headed for Beachwood Place in Cleveland. It almost felt like old times, roaming the shops for a good bargain and spending our hard working money on luxuries we didn't need. I managed to only buy one thing in the 4 hours we were there. Rachel was lucky and bought everything she needed for her upcoming vacations to L.A. and Hawai'i.
On the drive back to Oberlin, we picked up Keala and Ikaika for the car ride. I ended up walking the dogs in Tappan Square for a half hour until Aaron finished work at 9 p.m. We ended the night watching two movies -- I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell and The Informant! Now I'm surfing the internet for short and cheap vacations for spring break. I need some surf and sand!

Concert alert... Flogging Molly
I had another great date night with Aaron! We headed to Cleveland and the House of Blues for dinner and the Flogging Molly concert. Aaron's friend Jesse and his wife Cari joined us at the concert. Someone got hurt in the mosh pit (He hit his head and bled all over) and stopped the concert for 20-minutes but other than that it was a great night -- close parking, delicious food, a couple of drinks, awesome seats over the mosh pit, a happy stomach and a clear head all night! What more could I ask for? Oh and it reminded me of Dublin and my honeymoon... loved the fiddle, the flute, the banjo and the accordion!
