It's actually the calm before the storm time at work, even though I scrambled making the first draft desk schedule for next semester, I'm interviewing students to work next semester, hiring and declining applicants, and writing up student evaluations to give out next week. Woooo!
Aaron's high school buddy Aaron Boggs is in town again. I met up with the Aaron, Boggs, Big Al and James for a drink at Petey's after work on Thursday. Dang Tequila shot! My tummy burned!
On Friday, Aaron and I met up with Boggs and his sister Tina, Big Al and Tasha, and James for drinks again. We went to a biker's bar Scorchers in North Ridgeville first then ended the night at Dave's bar Bullfrogs. Let's just say it was a very long night for me. It's tough to hang out with drinkers when you are not one of them.
On Saturday, Michael and I went to see 17 Again while Aaron went mountain biking. After we met up with the gang again to have a surprise baby shower for Boggs. It was a nice night to hang out in Tina's backyard. We also got to see Jame's wife Erica, and met Big Al and Tasha's foster kids, Emily and Matthew.
On Sunday, I went back to work and Aaron took Bogg's and Tina to his favorite restaurant Melt in Lakewood, Ohio. I was jealous!

Aaron finally took me out to see Fast & Furious over the weekend. Amazingly, I cried during half of the movie. Most of you know I cry during every movie I see!

I am hoping we are done with snow! The warmer weather is finally allowing my plants to sprout out of the ground. It's so exciting! I wonder what plants survived this winter?
Now if we can have some sunny days to really get the plants growing!

GIRLIE UPDATE: The Ugly Truth trailer
The trailer for The Ugly Truth is out and it's funny. Oh GB, I missed you!
The movie comes out in July when Michael and I will be in Las Vegas. We'll need to find a movie theater there or go see it when we return home. Hmmm, tough call! Wouldn't it be fabulous if the premiere was in Sin City?

I didn't get up early enough to go to church (Michael and Cookie chuckled that I would make an effort) but managed to drag out of bed in time to have brunch with Aaron and his mom.
I wish Aaron and I didn't have to work today because it's gorgeous outside -- it "looks" like Hawai'i with the clear blue skies and the sunshine. But it doesn't "feel" like Hawai'i!... it's 41 degrees out!

Let's go bowling!
Aaron and I joined some of my library students at the College Lanes for bowling night. I could just hear my dad saying "Hit your mark!" or "Follow through with your hands -- comb your hair!". I didn't do so well tonight (I didn't even hit 100!) but I managed to get a spare here or strike there. And my students were amazed at my perfect four step glide form.
Thank you Dad, for teaching me to at least look good when I bowl! Miss you!
(I forgot my camera so I didn't get any pictures of the fun event... I had some cute green and yellow bowling shoes!)

I'm sure you are wondering how I named my gardens -- most are named after the streets surrounding my house and by it's location from my house. The exceptions are the Sidewalk and Circle Gardens that are obviously along the sidewalk to my house, and shaped like a circle in the middle of my front yard.

My hubby's back and he brought the sunshine with him
You can't even tell that we had snow on the ground this morning! Is spring here to stay? It's still a chilly 50 degrees out, even with the sun.
Keala and Ikaika went with me to pick up Aaron from the airport. They were so happy that their daddy is back! (And so am I!)
He hasn't been home for two hours and already the pups are taking their daddy on a walk!

Guess what we discovered outside...
SNOW!! No wonder I woke up sick! It started off as a soft mist but it turned into icy rain in the late afternoon and fluffy flakes in the early evening. It actually accumulated for an hour before melting. Keala seemed to enjoy the freezing weather, as usual. Ikaika kept trying to go in and out all day - drinking from the muddy water puddles and coming in for a treat. I had a workout wiping their paws and drying them off.

Movies and sweatpants weekend
I saw Watchmen in the theater again but with Michael this time. We also watched the DVDs to the The Phantom of the Opera Disc 2 special features, Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter, and How to Lose Friends and Alienate People. Since it's still too chilly out I stayed in and watched the DVDs to Twilight, W. and You Don't Mess with the Zohan as well. Oh, and don't forget Quantum of Solace and RocknRolla... the discs were in the player, so I let the movies run while I did other things around the house.
And why sweatpants? My UH sweatpants seemed to be the comfy choice of wear this week! Now its full of white and brown hairs from my dogs!
I bought a new curling iron! My hair's been frizzy lately so I've taken up to styling my hair -- after decades of the wash and comb, carefree hairstyle! My hair frizzes no matter how much conditioner or gel I load up... I think its the way my new stylist layered the back of my head because the rest of the cut is perfect. Anyway I swear my current curler was from my college days so I figured it was time for a new one, and I opted to keep my natural curly look and bypassed a straightening iron. (I hear straight hair is my niece's look now!)
Have you ever hung out at Border's? Michael and I finally did Saturday night. We picked out some travel books about Las Vegas, how to speak Spanish or Italian manuals, and other random magazines, bought lattes and hung out in their cafe. It was fun! So unlike the usual library experience -- no food, drinks and noise around the collection! We would have made some purchases at the end but we forgot to print out our discount coupons and decided to wait until next time. Three hours for the price of a latte, sweet! Does this mean I'm getting old, hanging out at a bookstore?
3 more days of freedom before the hubby gets back! What trouble can I get myself into now... who am I foolin', I need to clean the house!

In one week, my Sidewalk garden has tulips, daylilies, fake strawberries and creeping Jenny growing. The early spring crocus, anemone and winter aconite blooms have already withered. It also has a berberis and a Spruce bush on each end. It's more green than color right now. But soon...
The Circle garden was landscaped to have succulents - sedum, chicks and hens and sempervivum, under the Alberta spruce tree. It also has yucca, lupines, lambs ears and a berberis bush.
My front E. River garden are still bare but I can see my perennials - phlox, thyme and bugleweed pushing out of the ground. It should have ivy ground cover; I don't know if I cut it down too much or if its waiting for more sun. I found a sedum behind the rhododendron bush too. In the back garden, the hostas are pushing through as well.
The Calann garden in front of the windows was landscaped to have a Japanese zen style. It has cotonaster, juniper and berberis bushes, three grass patches and a small Japanese maple tree. A couple of years ago I added river rock and tried to simulate two round ponds that were connected by a stream that flows through the garden. But the recent rains sort of rearranged my one pond right outside of the front door. There should also be clematis plant that will crawl up the trellis but I didn't take a picture of it yet.
The part of the garden in front of the door has Yucca (that look pretty dead right now), a rhododendron bush that's sprouting leaves and a cotonaster.
Since my Abbe garden consists of boxwood hedges, a summer hydrangea bush and a summer rose of Sharon bush, it will look the same until June. I do need to trim those hedges though.
The Prospect garden will have hostas and wildflowers. I see the hosta shoots coming up.
My Michigan garden under the kitchen window will consist of purple astilbes which have popped out and is about 2-3 inches high.
The Georgia garden will have two varieties of hostas, lLady's mantle and two varieties of ferns. I take pride in my ferns since they remind me of Hawai'i so I'm really hoping they survived the winter.
My Park gardens should have a poi-mixture of plants, and right now nothing is up yet, not even the bushes are growing. I think it's more weeds than plants. hmmm...
The University garden is the home of Aaron's strawberries, mint, raspberries and blackberries bushes and garlic plants.
And finally my Colgate garden has a huge low-growing juniper bush, Irish moss, thyme and creeping Jenny under the Maple tree. It will also have peony bushes and hostas growing along the fence. The peonies will add a splash of color to my overall green palette of plants. Hmmm, can you tell I'm from Hawai'i?

I survived another work week!
The dogs haven't killed me yet! Every morning promptly at 8:30 a.m. I get a powerful "paw" on my back from big boy Ikaika. And if I don't get up right away, which is every morning, the paw punch gets harder with an added scratch down my sides. A couple of mornings, he stood right over me, threatening me with puppy breath or the dreaded drool...
Ikaika's all business -- out to do his thing and back in for his kibble and ice cream breakfast. Keala's happy to stay outside. I eventually go back to sleep for a couple more hours until Keala does her threatening bark proclaiming the mailman's coming down the road, promptly at 11 a.m. We have breakfast -- pop tarts or spam and rice -- and eventually go out for a walk before I head out for work. Sometimes I come home at midnight and take them on a short walk to burn off some of their energy. I guess it helps them sleep through the early mornings... until 8:30 a.m!
I'm amazingly busy at work planning for the end of the semester, hiring for the summer term and promoting and hiring for the fall. I'm also putting procedures online and giving out training exercises. By the time I get home I'm pooped and haven't had the energy to watch a chick-flick to unwind or read my usual half-a-book before turning in. I'm bobbing my head after one chapter!
Oh but it feels good -- getting things done even though Aaron's out-of-town -- and the warmer weather's a big help getting out of the winter blues! I didn't get sick all week! Oh I probably "bachi"(cursed) the good weather now that I mentioned it! And I'll probably wake up tomorrow with a stuffed nose and fat eyes now!
Now if I can find the time this week to tackle my flower beds! I did an inital clean-up last week and I see my spring flowers popping out. I think they need some fresh soil and mulch to kick them into a growth spurt! Look at my "flower power" blog entry below...
